ThursdayLECTURE SERIES:

Camden County College’s series on one of the world’s foremost female novelists, Jane Austen, runs through March and conclude in early April. The lectures in “All About Austen: Her Laughter, Her Life, Her Legacy” will be given in Room 210 of Madison Hall on CCC’s Blackwood Campus. Each will start at 7 p.m., and admission is free. Planned lectures include “The Wit and Wisdom of Jane Austen” with Colleen Sheehan of Villanova University on March 20; and “Austen on Page and Screen: Adapting the Novels” with Lisa Zeidner of Rutgers University, who also is a novelist, poet, essayist and short story writer, on April 3. PLAY: Haddonfield Plays & Players presents “Number the Stars,” a play adapted from Lois Lowry’s Newbery Award-winning novel. “Number the Stars” tells the story of ten-year-old Annemarie Johansen and her family in 1943 Copenhagen. As the Johansen family gets caught up in events surrounding the rescue of Danish Jews, they craft an elaborate and dangerous plan to help Annemarie’s best friend, Ellen Rosen. The show features music and lyrics by Sean Hartley. Daytime performances are March 20 and April 1, 2, 3 at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. evening shows Wednesday, April 2 at 7:30 p.m. All tickets are $7, and can be ordered by calling the Box Office at (856) 429-8139 or visiting haddonfieldplayers.org. Performances will be held at the Plays & Players Theatre, located at 957 E. Atlantic Ave., just off Upland Way, in the Crows Woods section of Haddonfield. This production is dedicated to Dr. Liviu Librescu, the Virginia Tech professor who died while defending his students during the shooting that took place at the college on April 16, 2007.

FAMILY NIGHT: Clementon Elementary School will host a Chuck E. Cheese Family Night on Thursday, March 20 from 3 to 9 p.m. at Chuck E Cheese, Almonessen Road, Deptford. Chuck E. Cheese himself will visit students at the school at 2:30 p.m. Chuck E, Cheese will donate 15 percent of the sales back to the school. This event is sponsored by Clementon Community Education.

KIDS’ STORY TIME: The Mall at Voorhees Town Center (formerly Echelon Mall) presents “Story Time” sessions on March 20 at 11 a.m. with Voorhees’s “Ms. Lisa” will lead the events in the mall’s Boscov’s Court. Each story time will feature a new book. Participants also receive special coupon offers; a free lunch from Chick-Fil-A, a 20 percent off coupon from Borders Express for any of the story time collection books and 15 percent off any purchase from KB Toys.

FREE WATER ICE: Rita’s Annual “First Day of Spring Italian Ice Giveaway” takes place on Thursday, March 20 at all Rita’s Water Ice locations. Each guest will receive a 10-ounce cup of their favorite Italian ice.

The Village Playbox of Haddon Heights presents “Murder on the Rerun” through March 15. Shows take place at the Haddon Heights Presbyterian Church, Green Street and Seventh Avenue, at 8 p.m. March 14 and 15, and at 2 p.m. on March 15. LECTURE: Whitesbog Preservation Trust (WPT) begins its 2008 quarterly lecture series with a discussion on how the wild blueberry was tamed, “Cloning is Nothing New: the Domestication of the Wild Blueberry,” Saturday, March 15, 2 p.m. Whitesbog educator Richard Prickett is the presenter. Location is the General Store back room. The next program in the 2008 Quarterly Lecture series is “Secrets of Pinelands Plants” on May 10 with speaker Millicent Moore. CEMETERY TOUR: “In Heaven B’fore the Devil Knows You’re Dead,” a walking tour of Laurel Hill Cemetery, will take place on Saturday, March 15 at 2 p.m. Participants are invited to Gatehouse for an after party sponsored by Yuengling Brewery. EASTER BUNNY: The Mall at Voorhees Town Center’s annual “Bunny Fun Day” takes place on Saturday, March 15 in Boscov’s Court from noon to 2 p.m. The Easter celebration features bunny ears crafts, face painting, balloon sculpting, Easter games such as bunny bowling, bunny basketball and bunny bulls eye, as well as prizes and free giveaways. Families are also invited to Boscov’s from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. the same day. Kids can get temporary Easter tattoos, do springtime crafts and more. : A free lecture series at Rutgers-Camden will explore how faith intersects with varied disciplines, including science and math. Presented by the graduate liberal studies program at Rutgers-Camden, the lecture series “Faith and Reason” will take place from 4:30 to 6 p.m. in the faculty lounge on the third floor of Armitage Hall. SERIES: From discussions on the development of American hotels to the evolution of baby books, the Lees History Seminar Series at Rutgers-Camden offers an opportunity to learn more about history from established and emerging research scholars on Fridays this spring. An endowment from Andrew Lees, a professor of history at Rutgers-Camden, supports this free series, which will take place at 3:30 p.m. in the faculty lounge on the third floor of Armitage Hall. Rutgers-Camden celebrates Women’s History Month with a diverse series of free lectures. Sponsored by the Rutgers-Camden women’s studies program, the events will be held in the Fine Arts Complex and Campus Center on Third Street, and Armitage Hall on Fifth Street, located between Cooper Street and the Benjamin Franklin Bridge on the Rutgers-Camden campus. On Monday, March 31, Charlotte Markey, an assistant professor of psychology at Rutgers-Camden, will discuss “Body Image, Cosmetic Surgery, and TV: A Look at the Desire for Self-Change,” at noon in the Faculty Lounge, located on the third floor of Armitage Hall.
